Winter Is Ruff: Protect Your Dog When Temperatures Drop

Winter can be magical for dogs: snow zoomies, extra warm cuddles, and snowy walks. But the cold weather can also be dangerous for dogs. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered with these tips to keep your pup cozy, safe, and ready to conquer the cold.

Stay Warm

Every dog channels their inner Alaskan husky the moment snow hits the ground. But let’s face it—not every pup is built to brave the cold. Quality, warm outerwear is essential for short-haired breeds and smaller dogs. For their paws, waterproof booties are lifesavers to keep their paws warm. Not only will your dog look runway-ready, but they’ll stay warm and protected from icy sidewalks.

Snow isn’t a Snack

Dogs love to snack on snow almost as much as they love to play in it. While it might look harmless, snow can hide some serious dangers. Ice-melting chemicals, road salt, and antifreeze can all pose serious risks. Even a quick lick could lead to stomach issues—or worse. To keep your dog from turning the snow into a snack, bring fresh water on walks to quench their thirst.

Snow Zoomies Are Fun, Frostbite Isn’t

We get it—dogs LOVE the snow. But too much time outside in freezing temperatures can lead to frostbite or hypothermia. Limit playtime to short fun bursts and keep an eye on signs like shivering, whining, or lethargy. Rule of Paw: If it’s too cold for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s most likely too cold for your pup.
