4th of July Safety Tips for Dogs

The 4th of July means sunshine, BBQs, and fireworks. But for dogs? It can be a little overwhelming. Loud noises, hot temps, big crowds, and changes in routine can leave pups feeling anxious or unsafe. At fabdog, we’re all about keeping your bestie comfy and calm. Here are a few easy tips to help your dog feel safe and happy while you celebrate.

1. Secure ID Tags & Microchips

More dogs go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year, so it's important to be prepared ahead of time.

  • Double-check that your dog’s collar fits snugly and has an up-to-date ID tag.

  • If your dog is microchipped, confirm your contact info is registered and current.

🐾 We know accidents happen, being prepared helps bring lost pups home faster.

2. Keep Them Cool & Hydrated

Whether you’re hosting or heading to a BBQ or other outdoor outing, keep in mind that high temperatures can be tough on pups.

  • Make sure fresh water is always available.

  • Avoid walking on hot pavement. Remember, if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!

  • Stick to shady spots and keep your pup cool with accessories like a damp bandana, frozen chew toy, or even a mini inflatable dog pool, just add a floatie toy for some splashy outdoor fun.

3. Leave Them at Home When Possible

Fireworks may be fun for humans, but for dogs, they can be terrifying. Parades, firework shows, and large crowds can quickly overwhelm even the most social dogs.

  • If you’re going out, let your dog chill at home in their safe space.

  • Set up a cozy indoor space with their favorite blanket, toy, or even a thunder vest for some calming, anxiety-relieving pressure.

  • Close windows, blinds, and doors to muffle sound and flashes.

  • Play soft music or white noise to soothe and distract.

  • Make sure they’ve had a potty break and a little playtime beforehand to help them settle.

5. Stick to Their Routine

Dogs thrive on routine, and holiday disruptions can throw them off.

  • Try to feed, walk, and rest them around their usual times.

  • A bit of structure helps them feel more secure, even if the neighborhood’s popping off.

Keep Calm & Celebrate On

The 4th of July should be fun for the whole family, furry ones included. With a little planning and prep, your dog can stay safe, cool, and totally unbothered by the fireworks.

From all of us at fabdog, have a safe and happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸✨
